Feather flags are the tall, vertical, curved-top flags you see lining forecourts and roadsides across the UAE — and K.A.T SIGNS prints them in-house on weather-rated fabric with a full choice of bases for Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman and Abu Dhabi.
What is a feather flag?
A feather flag is a tall flag shaped like a bird’s feather: a slim vertical profile with a gently curved top edge, mounted on a flexible fibreglass or aluminium pole that threads through a sewn sleeve. The shape lets the flag catch even a light breeze and sway, which draws the eye of passing traffic. Because it is narrow and very tall — typically ranging from around 2 metres up to 5 metres overall — it delivers maximum height for the smallest ground footprint, which is exactly what you want on a busy forecourt or a crowded event row.
Where do feather flags work best?
Feather flags earn their keep anywhere you need to be seen from a distance or from a moving vehicle. The most effective placements are:
- Petrol stations, car showrooms and service centres where forecourt visibility drives walk-ins.
- Roadside retail and shopfronts that need to break the skyline above parked cars.
- Property launches and open houses guiding buyers off the main road.
- Exhibitions and outdoor expos marking a stand or sponsor zone from across the hall or field.
- Grand openings and seasonal sales where a row of flags signals activity.
Height sells. A single 4-metre feather flag on a forecourt is often more visible than a much larger ground banner, because it rises above vehicles and reads against the sky. For a run of flags, alternate two artworks to create rhythm along a frontage.
What sizes and bases are available?
Feather flags come in a family of heights, and the base you choose depends on the surface. Use a ground spike into grass or sand, a cross base plus weight for hard floors, and a water or sand base for windy outdoor sites. This table maps common sizes to typical uses.

Single or double-sided — which should you order?
Order single-sided when your flag faces one direction or when a mirror-image reverse is acceptable, and double-sided when traffic passes on both sides and you need each face to read correctly. Here is how we produce them:
- We dye-sublimation print your artwork so colour is locked into the fabric.
- Single-sided flags show through as a soft mirror on the reverse.
- Double-sided flags add a blockout layer between two printed panels.
- We hem, add the pole sleeve and match the base to your site.
How much wind can a feather flag take?
Feather flags are engineered to sway, and that flexibility is exactly what protects them: the fibreglass pole bends with a gust and springs back rather than snapping, while the tall, narrow cut of the flag spills wind instead of catching it like a sail. For everyday breezes on a forecourt or a shopfront, a weighted cross base or a ground spike keeps a 3 to 4 metre flag stable all day. On more exposed roadsides, or through the stronger afternoon winds the UAE can bring, we step up to a water or sand base and, for the tallest flags, recommend bringing them down in extreme conditions to protect both the fabric and passers-by. The reward for choosing the right base is a flag that keeps flying and reading cleanly for weeks, rather than one that leans, drags on the ground or tears in the first strong gust.
