Why does the pole shape make teardrops so stable?
The secret to a teardrop flag is the way its pole is built. Instead of a single straight upright, the teardrop uses a jointed pole that runs up the leading edge and then curves right over the top of the flag, following the droplet outline. This holds the fabric taut on two edges at once, so the flag is stretched into its shape rather than left to flap loose like a conventional flag on a single pole.
