What is a wall mounted flag and how is it rigged?

A wall mounted flag is a flag hung from a pole that fixes to a wall on an angled bracket, so the flag projects outward and downward from the building rather than flying from a mast in the ground. The pole sits in a socket or clamp bolted to the facade, usually angled up at roughly 45 degrees, and the flag hangs from and flies off that pole. This rigging is what defines the type: it needs a solid wall to fix into, and the bracket and pole are chosen to carry the flag’s weight and wind load safely above a pavement or entrance. Wall mounted flags can be indoor or outdoor — a row inside a hotel lobby or mall atrium, or a line along an external facade — but the outdoor version has to be built for weather, and the fixing has to be secure above people walking below.

When do you use wall mounted flags?

Use them wherever you want flag branding on a building that has no ground pole. The typical cases are a retail storefront projecting its logo flags over the pavement, a hotel flying national, emirate and brand flags in a row across its entrance canopy, an office or embassy facade, and a mall or showroom lining an atrium with flags indoors. They are especially useful in dense frontages where there is simply no ground to plant a pole but plenty of wall — a shop in a strip, a tower entrance, a covered walkway. A run of matching wall mounted flags along a facade creates a strong, repeated rhythm that reads well to passing traffic and pedestrians.

Indoor or outdoor, single or double-sided?

Choose based on where the flag hangs and how it is seen. Outdoor wall flags need a weather-resistant fabric and UV-tolerant dye-sublimation print so colour survives the sun; indoor lobby flags can use a softer fabric for a premium hang. On sides, a projecting wall flag is usually seen from both directions as people approach along the pavement, so double-sided construction — two prints blocked back to back — often makes sense so the design reads correctly coming and going. Single-sided is lighter and cheaper where the flag faces one main direction of traffic.
