Outdoor Signage

OVERVIEW

Outdoor signage is any sign fitted to a building exterior, roadside or open area, and in the UAE it must be built for the climate and approved by the municipality. K.A.T SIGNS designs, fabricates and installs outdoor storefronts, facade signs and freestanding signage across Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman and Abu Dhabi, using marine-grade materials and handling the permits from start to finish.

What is outdoor signage and where is it used?

Outdoor signage is exterior branding designed to attract customers and identify your premises from the street. It has to survive UAE sun, heat, humidity and coastal salt while staying bright and legible day and night. Typical outdoor signs include shopfront fascia signs, illuminated box signs, 3D letters on the facade, projecting blade signs, pylon and monument signs, and building-top branding.

  • Retail and mall shopfront fascias
  • Illuminated and non-illuminated facade signs
  • Projecting blade signs for narrow frontages
  • Freestanding pylon, monument and totem signs
  • Building-mounted and rooftop brand signs

Does outdoor signage need municipality approval in the UAE?

Yes, every exterior sign in the UAE needs municipality approval before it is installed. In Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman and Abu Dhabi the relevant municipality reviews the design, dimensions and placement, and roadside or high-level signs may also need RTA or landlord and mall approval. The sign must be bilingual English and Arabic, with the Arabic no smaller than the English, and must match your DED trade name. K.A.T SIGNS prepares the technical drawings and bilingual artwork and submits the permit for you.

Approval protects your investment. Installing an unapproved exterior sign risks fines and forced removal. We build permit compliance into the design so your storefront goes up once and stays up.

Which materials survive the UAE outdoors?

Outdoor signs in the Emirates only last if they are built from climate-grade materials. We use marine-grade aluminium for frames, returns and structure so the sign resists corrosion near the coast, UV-stabilised acrylic for faces so colours do not yellow or fade under intense sun, and IP65-rated LED drivers and modules so the electrics are sealed against dust and humidity. Powder-coated and stainless fixings complete a build designed to shrug off the Gulf climate. These choices are not upgrades but the baseline we build to, because anything less simply does not survive a UAE summer, and a sign that fails after a single season costs far more than one specified correctly from the very start.

How long does an outdoor sign take to install?

Timelines depend mostly on permit approval, since fabrication runs in parallel in our workshop. A typical outdoor project follows these stages.

  1. Site survey and facade measurement
  2. Design and bilingual EN/AR layout
  3. Municipality permit submission and approval
  4. In-house fabrication of the sign
  5. Access-equipment installation and electrical connection

Where it works best

  • Brand visibility and customer-facing communication
  • New openings, refurbishments, campaigns, and events
  • Projects needing coordinated design, fabrication, printing, and permits

02

Design on your facade

You see the sign rendered on a photo of your actual storefront, day and night — not a generic mockup.

03

In-house fabrication

CNC routing, acrylic forming, LED assembly and finishing under our roof, with QC photos before dispatch.

04

Permit & install

We submit the municipality permit, then install — after hours if you are trading — and hand over with warranty.

FAQ

Outdoor Signage — ANSWERED

Do I need approval before installing an outdoor sign?
Yes. Every exterior sign needs municipality approval, and sometimes RTA or landlord sign-off. K.A.T SIGNS prepares drawings and files the permit for you.
What materials do you use for outdoor signs in the UAE?
Marine-grade aluminium, UV-stabilised acrylic and IP65-rated LED components, chosen to resist the UAE sun, heat, humidity and coastal salt.
Will my outdoor sign fade in the sun?
Not with the right build. We use UV-stabilised acrylics and durable print so colours stay true for years under intense Gulf sunlight.
Can you install signs high up on a building?
Yes. Our fitters install at height using the correct access equipment and handle the electrical connection for illuminated signs.
Does K.A.T SIGNS provide Outdoor Signage across the UAE?
Yes. K.A.T SIGNS designs, produces and installs Outdoor Signage across Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman and Abu Dhabi from our in-house facility in Sharjah, with government and municipality permits handled end to end — send your details for a free, fast quote.
