What is a partial wrap and how does it differ from decals?

A partial wrap covers larger sections of the vehicle with printed vinyl, often blending into the vehicle’s own colour, while decals are cut or printed graphics applied to specific spots like door logos, contact numbers and rear-window lettering. Both leave much of the original paint showing and use it as part of the design, which is what keeps the cost down. A partial wrap might cover the lower half of a van or a full rear section, whereas a decal set could be simply a logo, phone number and website on each door. Many businesses combine the two: a coloured rear panel with crisp cut-vinyl details elsewhere.

Who should choose partial wraps and decals?

Partial branding suits businesses that want a professional, branded look without the outlay of a full wrap, and it is ideal for trades, service companies and delivery operators who mainly need their name, number and logo seen. If your vehicle’s factory colour already fits your brand, a partial wrap can enhance it rather than replace it. It also suits companies running many vehicles that want consistent, recognisable branding while controlling budget across the fleet. If instead you want a colour change and edge-to-edge coverage, a full vehicle wrap is the better route, and larger operations should look at fleet branding to standardise the decal set across every unit.

Do partial wraps and decals need RTA approval?

Yes. Any branding on a commercial vehicle in Dubai, even a simple door decal, needs RTA approval, and the vehicle must be registered under your company name with a matching trade licence. The same rules apply as for a full wrap: at least 50 percent Arabic text, only Arabic and English, no 3D elements, no QR codes or barcodes, and no branding on the windshield or side windows. Because partial designs carry less coverage, the approval file is often simpler, but it is no less required. What materials are used for partial wraps and decals?

Partial wraps and decals use the same cast, UV-stable vinyl as full wraps, because a decal in the UAE sun faces the same heat that fades cheap film. For cut-vinyl lettering and logos we use durable coloured films weeded to shape, and for printed partial panels we print and laminate on cast media. The laminate matters: without UV protection, decal colours shift and edges lift within a season. Because decals are smaller, they are also quick to refresh, so a phone number change or a rebrand is inexpensive to apply. Using quality material even on small graphics is what keeps a branded vehicle looking maintained rather than tired.
