Shop Signage

OVERVIEW

K.A.T SIGNS designs, produces and installs compliant shop signage across Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman and Abu Dhabi — illuminated storefront signs, 3D letters and lightboxes built to match your DED trade licence, carry mandatory Arabic and survive the UAE climate, with municipality approval handled for you.

What does a shop signboard need to be approved in the UAE?

The shop name on the board must match your DED trade licence exactly, and the sign needs municipality approval before installation. Regulators check that the trading name on your sign is identical to the licensed name, that Arabic appears and is no smaller than the English, and that size and placement fit the building rules. Getting any of these wrong means rejection and reprints. K.A.T SIGNS checks your licence, designs to the rules and submits the approval, and our shop signboard approval guide explains the process in detail.

Name mismatch is the number-one rejection. If the wording on your sign differs from your DED licence — even a shortened version — the municipality can reject it. We verify the exact licensed name before we design, so approval is not delayed.

Is Arabic mandatory on shop signs?

Yes, and it cannot be smaller than the English. UAE municipalities require public-facing shop signage to display the trade name in Arabic, sized equal to or larger than the Latin text. This is not a design preference, it is a compliance rule, and inspectors check it. K.A.T SIGNS produces correct bilingual EN/AR layouts as standard, including proper Arabic typography and, where needed, transliteration or translation of your trade name so it reads correctly.

What types of shop signage are there?

From flat panels to fully illuminated 3D letters, chosen to suit your storefront and budget. Front-lit and back-lit acrylic letters, fabricated metal letters, lightboxes, ACP-backed fascia signs and non-illuminated flat panels are all common. The right choice depends on your shop frontage, mall or municipality rules, and whether you trade after dark. Illuminated signage earns its cost on night-time streets and mall interiors where an unlit board disappears. Malls and community centres often set their own signage specifications on top of municipality rules — a fixed fascia depth, a permitted letter height, approved illumination types — and getting a sign made without checking these means a costly remake. We confirm both the municipality requirements and any landlord or mall handbook before fabrication, so the finished sign clears every approval in one pass. For food and beverage outlets, where evening trade is decisive, we usually recommend illuminated letters or a lit box so the name still pulls customers when the surrounding street is dark and every other unlit board has faded from view.

HOW WE WORK

FROM BRIEF TO INSTALLED

01

Brief & site survey

We measure the wall, facade or stand space, check sightlines and access, and confirm what the landlord and authority will allow.

02

Design at scale

You see the artwork rendered on a photo of the real location, proofed for legibility at distance — not a screen-size mockup.

03

Print & build

Colour-managed large-format printing, lamination and frame fabrication under our roof, with QC before dispatch.

04

Permit & install

We submit any required municipality/RTA permit, then install — after hours if needed — and hand over with warranty.
